The Florida Forest Service and the U.S. Department of Agriculture are in a stalemate over how to spend disaster relief money. Hillary Franz, Washington Lands Commissioner, said last week that 100,000 acres of fire- and disease-prone forest land should be thinned annually. The U.S. Forest Service has developed the FireCLIME Vulnerability Assessment Tool to help scientists and decision makers.
